And now for the Bad News: Amber Gorda will be leaving us in May to move to Ohio, of all places. The break is amicable and we fully support her decision to go, but she will be greatly missed. If you look really hard you might even see Dawn getting misty-eyed.

We're looking to make the most of the next few months that she'll still be around, and are set on continuing our little band and reverting to our original format as a three piece when she goes.  Why not get another guitarist, you may ask? 

Because Amber's shoes are that fuckin' big, bitch.

La Gorda is officially back in action this month, with our first bar gig in ages on NOVEMBER 20 at STACCATO MUSIC LOUNGE.

In addition to ending our official hiatus, those of you attending the show will also see our new guitarist AMBER in action and be some of the first peeps to catch our new sound as a four piece. It's a Saturday night, we come on at 9, you haven't seen us in ages and given the upcoming holidaze and travel plans you will likely not get another chance to see us till 2005. This Sunday, October 24 at 6pm EDT, La Gorda will be performing on WMUC's Third Rail Radio!  The show will be broadcast live via the 88.1 for those of you in the College Park, MD area; For those of you elsewhere, the show will be broadcast on the internet; You can access instructions on streaming WMUC here...

This show is our first public gig with our new guitarist Amber, so be sure to tune in and catch the debut of our new sound!

We've been in hibernation mode as of late but things are stirring beneath the surface.

We've taken on a new guitarist and are working out the kinks of transitioning from a three-piece guitar-bass sound to a two-guitar sound. Things are going well, but more slowly than I'd like... Lying low makes me antsy and I'm itching to get back into full swing again; I need to learn to bide my time.

In other news, La Gorda now has a Myspace Account! To make things more interesting I've added three clips from songs previously unavailable online: Happy Day Driving, Hot or Not, and Murder on the Playground. The recordings are from our stint at WMUC Third Rail Radio back in May. So do take a listen and add us to yer friends list pleeeze!

This Saturday La Gorda will be playing at the Charm City Art Space as part of the second installment of "Ladies Night", a monthly showcase of female-fronted bands. A workshop on body image will precede the show, starting at 5pm; Music will start at 7. Also playing are Tuffie, The Fallen One, World War Infinity, and Proteus.

This will be the last La Gorda show for quite some time, as we are taking a gig break to work on some new material and hit the studios, so be sure come out n shake yer tushies!

As I was updating our gig schedule last night and looking through our "past gigs" list on our website last, I realized that yesterday (May 25) was the first anniversary of our first show.

Since then we've played 22 shows, most good but some not so in various venues around DC, MD, VA and CT. We've weathered losing our drummer Rocio and the harried practice sessions with fill-ins that followed until we found the awesome rockin Christine while also juggling the usual ups and downs of work, school and life in general. We've played with some amazing bands met a lot of interesting people and gained a quite few friends along the way...

It's strange how it seems both so long ago and so recent at the same time.

Although we didn't make it through to the third round of Emergenza, we had a great time on Friday. Everything just clicked and came together in an awesome way, so much that I will say that Friday was our best set ever, hands down. It's really rewarding to see the practice and effort paying off: We're starting to gel with Christine and getting much better at playing live - less shoegazer and more rock star.

There has been a little bit of debate within the music scene about whether or not emergenza is a scam.... ( Here's my dish: ) At the end of it all, we had fun and learned a lot. Will we do it again? Probably not. But we're happy with the fact that we rocked it hard, and we're ready to rock some more.

So last night, we had a guitarist come over and audition. Just in talking to this girl on the phone I had a sort of feeling... like you could almost smell the crazy off of her through the reciever... but she seemed very eager to play; she said she'd played the guitar for 7 years, and had left me another message saying she'd taken the time out to learn one of our songs, so we figured, hey she seems to have initiative and might be a decent guitar player, so we may as well try her out; It's not like the sanity well is known to run deep amongst us musicians anyway.

( Oy. )
